Explorer Post

Explorer Post 402 is sponsored by the New Milford fire Department, and the New Milford Ambulance Corp. It is open to young men and women of all towns who are between the ages of 14 and 21. It gives the youth an opportunity to learn about the fire service and the emergency medical services.

As an Explorer, you'll join other teenagers in planning and operating your Explorer Post with guidance from qualified adult advisors. The Explorer Post consists of volunteer advisors and courses are instructed by either firefighters or EMS personnel.

As an Explorer, you will learn important skills, such as team building, public speaking, and interviewing. You will also learn how to organize your time to accomplish tasks for school and extracurricular activities. You will also have the opportunity to take courses in firefighting and first aid and receive hands on training, as well.

The Explorer Program provides opportunities to train with other departments and organizations as well. This enables explorers to obtain a broad spectrum of skill with discipline and respect for the fire and EMS service.

We not only serve the community by assisting in the fire EMS service, but we also support other organizations by volunteering our assistance in any way we can.

The training that we provide the Explorers has a great success rate. many past members have gone on to join the regular ranks of the fire department and ambulance corp. We will give you training that will make you a well rounded individual within the community.

The Explorers are not all about work, they are about having fun too! In the past the Explorers have joined the Fire Department on field trips to the FDNY, assisted a local Scout Troop at a camporee and have gone camping near Woodstock NY, as well as Skiing in Mt. Vernon.

If you are interested in learning about firefighting or the emergency medical service, and have fun doing it, give us a call at (201) 265-1712 and feel free to leave a message. Or you may visit either firehouse or the ambulance building at 10:00 am on any Sunday morning, to find out more on becoming a member of the New Milford Fire Department.
